How did this Festival start?
The Festival is a partnership between Hobsons Bay City Council and Donna Jackson of Hubcap Productions, a small arts company based in Newport. In 2015 Donna approached Council just as it released a policy paper advocating arts projects linking more closely with industry. It was agreed that Hubcap would curate, support and develop the Festival by offering opportunities for people from the local community to explore industrial sites, to reflect on past industries, and to tell their family stories of experiences with industries such as train building, bridge building or railways. The first Festival was delivered in 2016.
